You can download Nokia Map Loader for your Mac at http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-map-loader/download.
Before installing the Map Loader you need to ensure you have downloaded and installed Nokia Multimedia Transfer.
To install the application simply unzip the file and drag the application in to your Application folder.
Note that Nokia Map Loader for Mac is supported only with Maps version 3.04 and older. With Maps 3.06 and later you can download the map data directly to the phone over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.
Nokia Map Loader for Mac is an application for your Mac with which you can download maps and then transfer them to your mobile device. With Nokia Mac Map Loader you save in data transfer costs, and the downloading is faster than with a mobile internet connection. If you download the map of a country with Nokia Mac Map Loader, the map is immediately available in your device when you start the Maps application, and you do not have to wait for the data to be downloaded over the mobile internet connection.
Nokia Map Loader for Mac can be used with Maps versions 3.04 and older, it is not supported with Maps 3.06 and newer versions. As an alternative, the users of Maps 3.06 and later can download the map data directly to their phone via Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.
In addition to Nokia Map Loader for Mac, you need to have Nokia Multimedia Transfer on your Mac to transfer the map data.
You will need to install Nokia Multimedia Transfer 1.3 or 1.4 on your Mac.
These can be found at http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-multimedia-transfer.
Note that Nokia Map Loader for Mac is supported only with Maps 3.04 and older versions. With Maps 3.06 and later you can download the map data directly to your phone over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.
Do not abort the transfer of map data to your mobile device. Before you start the transfer, make sure that there is enough memory space available on your memory card for the amount of data you want to copy. You can see the amount of data which will be transferred to your mobile device in the Nokia Map Loader application on the line Total Size; under the heading Connected Phones you can see the amount of Free space on your device.
If you try to export huge amounts of data, for example if you want to transfer the map data of an entire country or continent, it may take a very long time until all data has been transferred to the card.
Make sure that the USB cable is properly connected and the connectors stay tightly fit during the transfer. Check also that the internet connection from your Mac is working properly. Note that data transfer via USB connection does not work with Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices like the Nokia N70, so these devices are not supported by Nokia Map Loader for Mac.
Note that Nokia Map Loader for Mac supports only Maps version 3.04 and older, the newer versions starting from 3.06 are not supported. With Maps 3.06 you can download the map data directly to the phone over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.
Nokia Mac Map Loader requires the following :
• Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
• Nokia Multimedia Transfer 1.3 or later (1.4 recommended)
• An internet connection to download the map data
Note that Nokia Map Loader for Mac can be used only with Ovi Maps 3.04 and earlier but not with 3.06 and newer versions. With version 3.06 onwards you can download the map data over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection directly to your phone.
The History function :
You can check if your device has the latest compatible Map data simply by connecting your device to a PC running Nokia Suite and selecting View > Go To > Maps.
If you are using Mac, download Map Loader for Mac and then check if there's an available update for Map data (applies only for Maps 3.04 and older, version 3.06 and later not supporting Map Loader for Mac).
With Maps 3.06 and later you can check the availability of map data updates and do the update over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection by selecting:
If the online internet connection is enabled in Maps settings, map data could be dynamically loaded to the device over the internet connection e.g. in the following situations:
To avoid the map data being dynamically loaded over the internet connection, it is recommended to pre-install the required country maps to the phone via Nokia Suite. With Maps 3.06 and later it is possible to use also the Update or Map Loader command to download country maps over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection directly to the phone.
To find information on how to connect and use your Nokia device with a Mac computer, go to http://europe.nokia.com/mac.
To clear all map data from your mobile device, use the Delete Maps option in Nokia Suite (View > Go To > Maps).
In Maps 3.08 (and later) you can delete map data also in Map Loader application by long pressing the country map to be deleted.
You need to install the voice guidance pack to your device and select the desired voice pack in Maps before you can hear the navigation voice instructions. The voice guidance packs can be installed either via Nokia Suite or by downloading the voice packs directly to your device.
The voice packs with street names (voice packs with computer voices) can be used with both drive and walk navigation, the other voice packs are available only with drive navigation.
Installation via Nokia Suite:
Installation directly to the device:
Note that when downloading the voice guidance files directly to your device, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in data transfer costs.
If you are using Assisted GPS (A-GPS) to find your position there may be a charge as A-GPS involves the transmission of small amounts of data through your service provider’s network. Typically getting the GPS connection with A-GPS requires less than 10kB of data being transferred.
All data transmission costs are paid by the user. Outside your home cellular network, that is, while roaming, the costs may vary. Contact the service provider for information about data transmission costs.
When using normal GPS there are no charges involved, though a GPS fix will take much longer.
Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) assists the mobile device in finding satellites. A-GPS speeds up the location calculation remarkably and makes your GPS functionality start-up faster.
When using A-GPS, the device receives useful satellite information from an assistance data server over the cellular network. With the assisted data the device can detect the set of satellites that are worth listening to, that is, the satellites that are on the same side of the planet with your device. Without the assisted data the device should listen to all satellites and getting a GPS fix would take a longer time.
A-GPS is a network service and it is used by default in Nokia devices that support A-GPS.
A-GPS is available in all countries and does not depend on specific operator services.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a global satellite-based navigation system used to track your location. GPS satellite provides navigation coordinates with the typical accuracy of 10 meters (11 yards) and with the help of these signals the Maps software is able to locate your position and calculate your navigation route. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
If your phone has the Maps application installed, you can synchronise places and routes between the Maps internet service at maps.nokia.com and you Nokia phone.
The use of Nokia smartphones and services typically requires explicit acceptance of Nokia’s general privacy policy (also available at nokia.com/privacy) and Ovi Service Terms. Nokia’s general privacy policy defines our location based services and features related practices.
The Nokia user guide, available in the sales package or electronically on the smartphone, includes information about Ovi Maps features, the positioning methods as well as further information about location enabled device features, such as geo-tagging of pictures and videos.
Nokia smartphones allow consumers to enable and disable positioning methods, Drive navigation data collection and the geo tagging functionality anytime through the device settings and to remove geo-tags from the content. Once positioning methods are disabled by the consumer, no further location information is stored by Nokia applications on the smartphone or sent to Nokia.
It is recommended that you connect your phone and computer with a Nokia USB cable to transfer maps. If asked, select the Nokia Suite (or PC Suite) mode on your phone. Open Nokia Suite and select View > Go To > Maps to go to the Maps view. Select the maps you want for a specific country/region and click the Download button.
Note: Before you can download maps to your phone with Nokia Suite, make sure memory card is inserted (if phone does not have mass memory) and open the Maps application once on your phone.
Nokia smartphones use both time based and item storage based limits for location data.
The last known position is replaced every time a new position is calculated. Wi-Fi or GPS based positions are stored for a maximum of 7 days and for network based positioning, up to 2500 of the most recent locations may be stored, after which location information will be deleted or replaced when Wi-Fi or network positioning is next used. The length of time that the data is stored will therefore vary depending on how frequently the positioning services are used in different locations.
For data collected when using Drive navigation on Maps, information stored on the smartphone is collected from a maximum of 40 hours of driving. All information stored in the smartphone is encrypted and is deleted from the smartphone once it has been transmitted to Nokia.
To enter the search menu, select:
Enter the address or place in the search field or browse the points of interest around your location by selecting Categories tab.
The order of the search results is based on the distance to the current map position (nearest first). If searching for a remote place, use a more specific query, e.g. Airport, London, UK or move the map position to the desired area before doing the search.
Note that If Maps is in offline mode, it has more limited search database. For best search results, use Maps in online mode (Settings > Internet > Connection > Online in Maps 3.06 or Settings > General > Connection > Online in Maps 3.08 and later).
If you have an active wireless LAN or mobile internet connection, Maps will automatically access the maps server, even if maps have been preloaded on your memory card or device memory. To prevent Maps from establishing a mobile internet connection, set Maps in offline mode:

For Maps 2.0 & 3.01:
For Maps 3.03 - 3.06:
For Maps 3.08:
