Navigate to a destination


Whether you are driving or walking, your device guides you to your destination. This page shows you how to start navigating and how to navigate if you do not know the exact address to your destination. From here you can also find instructions on how to download voice guidance to your Nokia N97 device.


To start the navigation

To start the navigation, you must purchase a licence for the navigation service first. You can select whether you want to purchase Drive navigation or Walk navigation. Other features are also available, such as Traffic info, Guides, Routes, and Global maps. See these and more from http://nokia.com/maps.

If you want to test the navigation first, without purchasing the licence, check the availability of a Free Navigation licence for one week from http://nokia.com/maps.

Once you have a licence, you can transfer the licence from your device to another compatible device, but the licence can only be used in one device at a time.

To start navigating:

  1. Go to Menu > Maps and answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Go online now?’
  2. Select Options > Search > Addresses
  3. Type in the address of your destination
  4. Select Options > Search
  5. Select the correct destination from the list shown on the screen by tapping it
  6. Choose from the alternatives Walk to or Drive to.

Navigation without address

You can select your destination straight from the Map, without knowing the address.

  1. In Maps view, find the desired destination from the map by dragging it.
  2. Tap the destination and wait until the map moves to the correct place.
  3. The address is shown in the top-left corner. Tap that information area and select what you want to do from the list.

If you do not know the address but want to find, for example, the closest shop, restaurant or post office, your device will guide you there as well. Once in the Map view, select Options > Search. Choose whether you are Walking or Driving by tapping the selection. Then select the desired target from the list. The search result shows you the list of targets, showing the closest one first.


Download voice guidance

When you use navigation for the first time, you are asked to select the language of the voice guidance and download the related voice guidance files. Please note that voice guidance is not available for pedestrian navigation.

You can also change the language later and download a new language, if you wish.

To change the language:

  1. Go to Maps
  2. Select Options > Tools > Settings
  3. Select Navigation > Voice guidance
  4. Update the list by answering Yes and select the desired language.
