Switch between camera modes

To start using the camera, first tap and select . Switch between image or video mode by selecting or and press to either take a picture or record video.

You can also adjust the camera mode on your Nokia N900 to match different situations. To open the camera mode settings tap . Now choose from the following options:


Automatic mode - This is the default still image mode. Use this to capture images in a variety of situations.

Automatic video mode - This is the default video mode. Use this to record video clips in a variety of situations.

Macro mode - Use this to focus on close-up objects.

Landscape mode - Use this to capture sharp landscape shots with clear outlines, colours, and contrast.

Night mode - Use this to capture still images in low-light situations.

Action mode - Use this to capture fast-moving objects with a short exposure time. You can capture successive images rapidly.

Portrait mode - Use this for portraits of human subjects in good lighting conditions.

Add tags to your photos

Bring some context to your photos and make it even easier to find them later by adding description tags. After taking a photo, tap while in the post-capture mode > Edit tags > New. Now type key words that best describe your photo, such as 'ocean', 'beach', and 'holiday', and select Done.

You can also add description tags at a later point. From the desktop tap and select . Choose a photo from your collection, then tap the image again to go from view mode to edit mode. Now tap the menu at the top of the display > Edit tags > New > type your description words > Done.


To add tags to multiple photos at once, first tap the menu at the top of the display from the main gallery view. Then select Edit images' tags and highlight multiple images by tapping the thumbnails. After grouping your photos, tap the Edit tags button in the top bar, add your description words, and tap Done. These tags will now be added to all the photos you selected earlier.

Geotag your photos

Remember where your photos were taken with the option of automatic geotagging. This brings some extra context to your pictures and helps you quickly find them later.

To enable automatic geotagging on your Nokia N900, tap the menu at the top of the display while the camera is activated and select Geotags. Place a tick in the box with one tap and select Done to enable geotagging.

If you don't have a GPS connection or haven't enabled automatic geotagging, you can still add geotags manually. First take a picture and tap in the post-capture mode > Geotags > New. Now type the Country, City, or District and select Done.

Find your photos quickly

Tagging offers you a great way to quickly find your photos. To find one or more images in your collection, first go to the Photos application by tapping and selecting .

In the main gallery view, tap the menu at the top of the display and select Filter with tags. Now simply choose any key word from your tag cloud and tap Done to view all the photos containing those tags.


As your photos are automatically tagged with the date, you can also search for pictures taken within a particular period of time. In the main gallery view, tap the menu at the top of the display and select Filter with date. Tap Pick day to view photos taken on a specific date, Custom date range to search for photos taken within a set period of time, or No date filtering to turn the filter off.



View your images and video clips

After taking a great picture or recording high-quality video you can relive those moments with friends any time you like.

To start a slide show of your favourite images, tap while in the full-screen mode. You can stop the slide show by tapping anywhere on the screen.

Or view your images and video clips on a TV screen. First you need a 3.5 mm video-out cable (Nokia Video-Out Cable CA-75U). When connected, your device screen is shown on the TV screen. If the screen is not displayed correctly, check the system settings by tapping > Settings and TV out.

The supported video file formats are: .mp4, .avi, .wmw and .3gp. You might be able to convert other video formats into these formats using special software, or view other video formats with special applications. You can browse maemo.org for the latest news in this area.

Share images and videos with friends

Choose to share your photos and videos with a few close friends or the whole online community. Capture images or video, then send via a wireless Bluetooth connection, attach to an email, or post directly to share.ovi.com or Flickr.

After taking a photo or recording a video, you can share it immediately in the post-capture mode. Simply tap > Send via Bluetooth, Share via service, or Send via E-mail.

To share your pictures or videos later, tap and then select either or respectively.

In the Photos application, choose a photo and tap the image again to go from view mode to edit mode. Select to view your sharing options. In the Media Player application, tap , choose a video, and select to view the same sharing options.

Upload your photos and videos to the web

After capturing an image or video, you can immediately post it to an online service to share with friends and family. In the post-capture mode tap > Share via service. Choose to upload your images and videos directly to Share on Ovi or Flickr.

If you select Share on Ovi then simply log in to your account and tap Validate. As a first-time user, select Register new account and follow the onscreen instructions.

To upload a picture at a later point, tap and then . Choose a photo and tap the image to go from view mode to edit mode. Select and Share via service.

To post a video another time, tap and then . Select and choose the video you want to share. Now tap and Share via service.
