Nokia N900 support

Turn by turn navigation is not available in Ovi Maps for N900. Route planning does provide turn by turn instructions, however no real time voice guidance is available.

The on-screen virtual keyboard is not activated by default. To active the on-screen keyboard, tap the Application menu icon, and select Settings > Text input and select Use virtual keyboard check box. Remember to save the changes before exiting. When you have activated the virtual keyboard, tap any text entry field and the text input area appears on the touch screen and displays one of the keyboards.

Note! When the integrated keyboard is in use, the virtual keyboard is disabled.

You can also move the cursor on the web page as if using a normal mouse. This mode can be used, for example, when moving the cursor on a map, where information on a location is displayed when you point to it for a predefined period of time. To use this mode, start dragging from the left of the touch screen onto the screen. The 'arrow' icon is displayed. Tap the icon (icon changes to 'red line crossed arrow'). To select an item when using this mode, use the space or shift key.
To exit this mode, tap the 'red line crossed arrow' icon.

Yes. To add a new calendar to your device do the following:
1. Tap the Application menu icon and select Calendar.
2. Open menu (tap the title bar) and select Settings.
3. Select Edit calendars.
4. Select New to open Calendar wizard and follow the instructions on the screen.

Following the latest Nokia N900 software release (20.2010.36-2), there have been some reports of software updates failing. When using the Nokia N900 to start the software update, users may get a dialog which asks them to connect their device to a PC via USB.

The problem is caused by certain open source code used in selected 3rd party applications. The users can overcome this problem by removing the following applications:

• Tuxrace
• Wormux
  
• Brain party
  
• Gltron
  
• Stratagus
  
• Healthcheck
  
• Python QT4
  
• Frozen bubble
  
• Teeworlds
  
• Modified hildon desktop
  
• Faster kinetic scrolling in app menu
  

 
This can be done in the following way:

1. Open Application manager
2. Select “Remove”
   
3. Select the applications mentioned above
   
4. Press “Remove” on the dialog
   

After removing all of the applications listed above, users can open the App manager and select “Update” to install software updates.

Removed applications may be reinstalled once the N900 software update is installed.

Yes, you can use Nokia N900 with Nokia Suite. However, it is recommended that you install the latest version of Nokia Suite and, with it, update your phone software to the latest version available.

Since software version 10.2010.19-1 (PR1.2) following video call options are supported:
- Skype video call
- XMPP video call
- SIP video call

Skype video calls are currently supported between N900 devices and between Skype Windows client v4.2 or newer and N900 device.

To check whether there is software update available for you device, tap the Application menu icon, select App manager > Update.

In devices with sw. 3.2010.02-8 or earlier App manager can be found under More... -menu.

• Yes, VPN connectivity and support is embedded in the N900 device and can be used to synchronize with your mail messaging client.
• You will need to contact your administrator to obtain the VPN information to allow the device to be setup to use a VPN connection to your company or business backend.

Maemo update allows operating system and application updates over a WLAN or packed data connection. Maemo updates are done via Application manager.
When new software updates are available for the operating system or for applications, or when new applications available, exclamation mark is displayed in the status area. When you see the exclamation mark, tap the status are, select New updates or New releases and follow the instruction on the screen to proceed with the update. If you dismiss the suggested updates, you can later install them from the Application manager.
