To navigate using Nokia Maps your mobile device will need a built-in GPS receiver, or an external GPS module.
With a Bluetooth GPS module paired to your mobile device you can determine your current position and direction easily, and upgrade to voice-guided turn-by turn navigation on Nokia Maps.
Before you start using an external GPS module, please make sure you read the user guide for the module and for the mobile device you intend to use it with.
Before you can use Nokia Maps with a compatible external GPS receiver, you must pair it with your compatible mobile device. Open Nokia Maps and select Current position and Yes to connect via Bluetooth.
To pair the external GPS module in the Bluetooth menu:
When your external GPS module has successfully connected to your mobile device via Bluetooth, the Bluetooth indicator light flashes blue.*
*Device handling can vary for different GPS receivers.
Switch on your compatible external GPS receiver by pressing and holding the power key for one second until the battery indicator light starts to flash green. If you have an inbuilt GPS receiver, it is located under your devices keypad*. Ensure nothing covers the keypad when trying to receive a GPS fix.
It takes some time for the module to position itself first time, or if it has been switched off a long time. In optimal conditions, the start-up takes about one minute. When the module is receiving satellite signals, the GPS indicator light flashes white.*
