Mail for Exchange (MfE) (or Exchange ActiveSync) is a software application that allows you to access your email, calendar, contacts (address book) and tasks of your Microsoft Exchange account on your mobile device. These entries on your mobile device are updated with the entries on Exchange account through the process of synchronization. The Mail for Exchange client synchronizes updates from your email, calendar, contacts and tasks content on your mobile device with the content of your Microsoft Exchange account.
The Mail for Exchange application allows you to customize synchronization with the following:
The password (Lock Code) protection feature is enabled during the Mail for Exchange install and remains in fact following the uninstallation of Mail for Exchange. To remove the password prompt and security features added by Mail for Exchange, a hard reset (*#7370#) of the device is required.
Note: Take a backup without settings before reset the device. Depening on the device model, you might lose installed applications. Download and Install them again from Nokia Store.
Note: In Symbian^3 devices (e.g. Nokia N8-00, E7-00, E6-00, X7-00, C6-01... ) the internal mass memory E: will be formatted in this situation. It is therefore important that you back up all your data (also pictures) from the E: mass memory before resetting the device. Use Nokia Ovi Suite to back up the contents to your PC.
The Mailbox and the emails are deleted from the device but remain on the server.
Depending on the device the tasks, calendar and contact items remain on the device. Note: In the Symbian^3 devices also tasks, calendar and contact items will be removed, when removing Mail for Exchange mailbox.
All security policies were enforced to the device will remain, for example the device lock. To remove the device lock and all security policies installed, a factory restore of the device or hard reset (*#7370#) must be performed.
Note: Hard reset (*#7370#) will be formatted the internal mass memory E: in the Symbian^3 devices (e.g. Nokia N8-00, E7-00, E6-00 and X7-00). It is therefore important that you back up all your data from the E: mass memory before resetting the device. Use Nokia Suite to back up the contents to your PC.
After installing the Mail for Exchange (MfE) client or creating MfE mailbox the first full synchronization will occur automatically. Some devices have an option to do Full resync manually, for example on Nokia E63.
The following lists the three ways to synchronize your emails, contacts, and calendar items within the MfE client:
A. By default, Always On will be the synchronization schedule and you will synchronize automatically when new mail data (emails, contacts, calendar items) is created or sent from the Exchange server or from your device.
B. You can change synchronization to a timed interval and your device will synchronize on that time value. For example on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device:
C. You can change the schedule to Manual which will require you to manually synchronize every time you want your data.
You should collect the admin logs files from your device whenever you observe some weird behavior with your Mail For Exchange. The log files are named admin_log1.txt, admin_log2.txt and admin_log3.txt and pdu.log. Note: Amount of log files may vary, sometimes there is only admin_log1.txt.
The log files are stored in the Phone Memory by default under the MailForExchange folder (C:\data\MailForExchange).
Follow these steps to gather the logs from your Nokia device.
Set Mail for Exchange to Manual sync.
This step is optional: Delete the admin_log1.txt, admin_log2.txt and admin_log3.txt and pdu.log (if available) by using File manager (Office > File mgr.) from your device.
Perform a Manual sync and wait until it completes or until you get an error message. In case you don't succeed in repeating the problem with Manual sync, select auto sync and collect the log files as soon as the problem has appeared.
Copy all the files from the MailForExchange folder (C:\Data\MailForExchange) to your PC by using USB cable (with Nokia Suite or PC Suite) and send them to Nokia Care.
Note: You can also copy the log files by Office > File Mgr. to the new location on the device before you send them.
Note: Nokia N9 device does not have the log files. Instead you can check the status of the sync from Accounts > Mail For Exchange > Last Sync details.
The MfE client password does not update automatically when your Windows password is changed.
Note: This error message will also be displayed if you put in the wrong password during the initial device client setup.
Note: Applies Nokia S60 devices, which do not exist the built-in Nokia Email client.
Nokia S60 devices support device wipe and lock features and while synchronizing to an Exchange server, security information established by the Exchange Administrator is transferred to your device at this time. These include locking security features and wiping security features. A device lock is when your device will prompt you for a password to use it. A device wipe is when all data on your device is erased from your device memory and from your SD card in the device.

In general, in order to fix the Mail for Exchange email sync issue caused by Exchange 2010 SP1, customer needs Rollup 3 + Interim Update (KB2518850) *OR* Rollup 4, which includes the fix.
To find Mail For Exchange client version (for example on Nokia E71);
With the built-in Nokia Email Client you can check Email client version (for example on Nokia E72);
There is no Mail client version available for Symbian^3 devices.
Mail for Exchange supports these 40 languages (devices may support more):
American English, Arabic, Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English British, Estonian, Finnish, French, French Canadian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese Brazilian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish European, Spanish Latin American, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian.
This is as specified.
The main reason is that the composer on the mobile device does not support html format. If an email was started in html on the PC, then is synched from the MS Outlook Drafts folder to the Mail For Exchange Drafts, the formatting would be lost.
There is an Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) policy setting called Allow Direct Push when roaming; the configured value for this setting will effect the Sync while roaming value on the Mail for Exchange (MfE) client.
Supporting information about the MS Exchange server and the device security settings:
According to Microsoft; This setting specifies whether the device must synchronize manually while roaming. Allowing Direct Push when roaming will frequently lead to larger-than-expected data costs for the mobile device plan. So, to eliminate frequent connections and high data costs, the policy was established on the Exchange server.
Note:
A device wipe is a security feature used to erase all the data from a device. A device wipe can occur for the following reasons.
To eliminate the possibility of data duplication, Mail for Exchange 2.9 will only sync email after installation/upgrade and disable syncing of contacts, calendar and tasks. You will need to re-enable these options in Mail for Exchange settings to have them resume syncing.
Nokia N Series 60 devices:
Nokia E Series 60 devices:

Yes. The message will be moved to the Deleted folder in MS Outlook on the next synchronization.
Open the Mail for Exchange main application and check if the Current status field displays Connected.
On the built-in Email Client devices (for example E72 or Symbian^3 devices) the green circle indicates Connected status on the Mail For Exchange.
After any Exchange server is upgraded to version 2007, all Nokia devices will need to perform a "Full Resync" in MfE for the new features to become active on the device.
Nokia N Series 60 version device - Mail for Exchange version 2.9 and 3.0
Nokia E Series 60 version device - Mail for Exchange version 2.9 and 3.0
For devices that do not have a Full Resync option, you will need to remove the Mail for Exchange email account and create a new one. This will perform a full resync as it is rebuilding the new email and PIM data (Contacts, Calendar and Tasks) on the device.
Note: The HTML and Subfolder support are available on Mail For Exchange client version 3.0 and higher. The client version 2.9 or below does not support those features even MS Exchange server has already upgraded to 2007.
It is not recommended, while connected to your Nokia device, Nokia Suite (or PC Suite) and the Mail for Exchange client can run simultaneously. However, synchronizing using Nokia Suite and the Mail for Exchange client simultaneously can result in duplicated, deleted, or corrupt data.
You can use both of them simultaneously, if you synchronize for example Contacts via Nokia Suite and Emails and Calendar via Mail For Exchange.
Yes, if you have configured Mail for Exchange on your device.
To define do following steps on the device (for example on Nokia E72):
To add a Mail for Exchange contact to your Contacts do the following steps:
The email message size that can be downloaded to Mail for Exchange depends on the limit your Exchange Server administrator has set. However, you will not be able to download an email message on the Exchange Server, due to a limit in the Mail for Exchange client itself. Keep in mind that anything over 20 KB will cause Mail for Exchange to perform more slowly.
The size limts are:
MFE Client version 3.0 has maximum of 400kb.
Note: Attachment is not included to the email message size.
