  • I have been unable to complete the transfer of map data to my mobile device using Nokia Map Loader for Mac. What can I do?

Do not abort the transfer of map data to your mobile device. Before you start the transfer, make sure that there is enough memory space available on your memory card for the amount of data you want to copy. You can see the amount of data which will be transferred to your mobile device in the Nokia Map Loader application on the line Total Size; under the heading Connected Phones you can see the amount of Free space on your device.

If you try to export huge amounts of data, for example if you want to transfer the map data of an entire country or continent, it may take a very long time until all data has been transferred to the card.

Make sure that the USB cable is properly connected and the connectors stay tightly fit during the transfer. Check also that the internet connection from your Mac is working properly.
Note that data transfer via USB connection does not work with Symbian Series 60 2nd Edition mobile devices like the Nokia N70, so these devices are not supported by Nokia Map Loader for Mac.

Note that Nokia Map Loader for Mac supports only Maps version 3.04 and older, the newer versions starting from 3.06 are not supported. With Maps 3.06 you can download the map data directly to the phone over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.

  • How do I know if there is an update available for the map data in Nokia Maps 3.x?

You can check if your device has the latest compatible Map data simply by connecting your device to a PC running Nokia Suite and selecting View > Go To > Maps.

If you have a Mac, running Map Loader for Mac will advise you if there is an update to the Map data (applies for Maps 3.04 and older, version 3.06 and later not supported).

With Maps 3.06 and later you can check the availability of map data updates and do the update over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection by selecting:

  • Maps 3.06: Update > Check for updates.
  • Maps 3.08: Map Loader > Check for updates.

  • How do I downgrade the Maps application?

We do not recommend downgrading to earlier versions of the Maps application as many of the improvements to both the Maps application and map data will not be available. Whether you can downgrade, depends on Maps version and platform:

  • Downgrading of Maps 3.08 is not supported.
  • Downgrading of Maps 3.06 version on Symbian^3 devices is not supported. To downgrade Maps 3.06 on other devices, or Maps 3.03 and 3.04 to the original Maps version shipped with your device, uninstall Nokia Maps or Ovi Maps from the Application Manager on your device.

Once you have downgraded the application, start the Maps application briefly to recreate the file structures before using Nokia Suite (PC) or Nokia Map Loader (Mac) to transfer the map data to your device.

  • What do I need to consider if I upgrade from Maps 2.0 to Maps 3.0x?

Due to an incompatibility of Maps 2.0 data with the Maps 3.0x version, the update will delete your map data and voice files.

When asked "This version of Maps is not compatible with the old map data stored on your device. Delete old map data?" during the installation, select “yes”, otherwise the installation will be cancelled.

We recommend you to download the Nokia Suite (PC) or Map Loader (Mac) to re-install your map data and voice files to your mobile device.

Please Note: when updating to the free Maps 3.03 version, the phone software version in Nokia N97 must be 20.0.019 or later and in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic version 31.0.008 or later. You can check the phone software version by typing *#0000# on the keypad.

  • What is Mac Map Loader?

Nokia Map Loader for Mac is an application for your Mac with which you can download maps and then transfer them to your mobile device. With Nokia Mac Map Loader you save in data transfer costs, and the downloading is faster than with a mobile internet connection. If you download the map of a country with Nokia Mac Map Loader, the map is immediately available in your device when you start the Maps application, and you do not have to wait for the data to be downloaded over the mobile internet connection.

Nokia Map Loader for Mac can be used with Maps versions 3.04 and older, it is not supported with Maps 3.06 and newer versions. As an alternative, the users of Maps 3.06 and later can download the map data directly to their phone via Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.

In addition to Nokia Map Loader for Mac, you need to have Nokia Multimedia Transfer on your Mac to transfer the map data.
