Use maps and find locations

Note!

These instructions are written for the Nokia Maps version 3.3. To check your current Maps version and to install the new version, see the instructions from Install Ovi Maps application on your phone.

To access the maps, select the Maps shortcut from the home screen. You can also access the maps by selecting Menu > Applications > GPS > Maps.

When you use Maps for the first time, you may need to select an Internet access point for downloading maps. If you browse to an area that is not covered by maps already downloaded to your device, a map for the area is automatically downloaded through the Internet.

To avoid data transfer costs, you can also use Maps without an Internet connection, and browse the maps that are saved in your device or memory card.

Find locations

Sometimes you need to know where you are; sometimes you need to find the way. Learn how to use your maps for basic location finding.

Your position:

If the GPS is active, it locates your position directly you open the Maps application. To view your current or last known location, select My position. When the GPS connection is active, a dot shows your current location on the map.

To zoom in and out on the map, press the * and # keys. The map is oriented towards north by default.

Find a location:

Maps is intuitive to use: find a location, start planning your trip. There are several options for locating your destination on the map. Start with the address search, save your search results as favourites and collect search history. The more you use your maps, the faster they are to use.

  1. Select Menu > Applications > GPS > Maps.
  2. Select Find places.
  3. Enter the keyword to the search box in the top corner of the display and choose Go.
  4. You’ll get a list of possible places.
    • Choose a place from the list and select Map, to see place on the map.
  5. Press the scroll key and select from the options: Walk to, Drive to, Add to route, Show details, Save place.
    • If you select Show details, you will be shown more detailed information on the location, including coordinates, address and distance.

Another way to search for a place is to choose Browse categories. You can browse through categories such as Sights & museums, Restaurant, Hotel and Shopping.
