You can chat with your friends with your device. Learn how to use Contacts on Ovi to chat with your friends wherever you go.

Note that you will be using either wireless LAN (WLAN) or a packet data connection. The more suitable method is a wireless LAN connection because a packet data connection may generate additional data transmission charges. For pricing details, contact your network provider.

1. Select Chat Activate service from your home screen, and select Chat on Ovi.
• Other way to start is to choose Menu > Contacts > Ovi tab.
2. The device asks you to use either an existing Nokia account or to create a new one. If you already have a Nokia account, select Use existing.
• If you select Create new, you must first create a Nokia account before you can continue.
3. Fill in your User ID and Password, and select Sign in.
4. After sign in is completed, you can adjust the My profile information, When you are finished, select Done.
5. Now, in your devices contacts’ Ovi tab, you have:
• My profile – you can adjust your profile. For example update and share what are you doing and where you are with your friends.
• Invite friend – you can search for friends and invite them.

Start chatting:

1. Select Options > Chat.
2. To send a chat message, enter the text in the message field, and select Send.

In the chat view, select Options and choose from the following:

• Show open apps – Shows open applications. (Only if you have open applications.)
• Send – Send the message.
• Add smiley – Insert a smiley.
• Profile – View the details of a friend.
• Edit text – Copy text from or paste text into your message.
• Settings – Edit the settings.
• End chat – End the active chat.
• Help – Get help.
• About – Gives you more information.
• Input options – Adjust input options.
• Editing options – Adjust editing options.
• Exit – End all active chats, and close the application.

To receive location information from your friend, you must have the Maps application. To send and receive location information, both the Maps and Positioning applications are needed. To view the location of your friend, select Show on map.

To return to the Contacts on Ovi main view without ending the chat, select Back.

If you receive a phone number in a chat, select Options to add it to your contacts, call, send a message or copy the number.

If you receive an e-mail address in a chat, select Options to copy the e-mail address or send e-mail to it.

If you receive a web link in a chat, select Options to open or copy the link.
