General

Is there anything particular I can do to take good care of my mobile device?

The mobile device is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care.

  • You should not use or store your device in dusty, dirty areas as this can damage its moving parts and electronic components.
  • Use a soft, clean, dry cloth to clean the device or any lenses, such as camera. Do not us harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.
  • Pay attention to proper charging, the battery is not everlasting and will eventually reach a point where it is time to replace it.
  • Keep the device dry as precipitation, humidity, and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits.

Charging

How often do I have to charge the battery?

The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia original batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia original chargers designated for this device. Always use a proper charger and charge indoors or in the car.

What are normal charging times?

Nokia has several charger models with different output power [Voltage (V) and Current (mA)]. The charging time depends on the output power of the charger.

My device's battery life seems to be shorter than I expected. Is there any way I can prolong battery life?

Many features in your device increase the demand on battery power and reduce the battery life. To save battery power, note the following.

Features that use Bluetooth technology or wireless LAN (WLAN), or allowing such features to run in the background while using other features, increase the demand on battery power. Turn Bluetooth or wireless LAN technology off when you do not need it.

How do I know when the battery is fully charged?

When the battery is fully charged, the charging indicator stops scrolling. Disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet.

Tip: Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet when the charger is not in use. A charger that is connected to the outlet consumes power even when it is not connected to the device.

Can I use other than Nokia chargers for my Nokia device?

We recommend that you use only Nokia original batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia original chargers designated for this device. The use of any other types may invalidate any approval or warranty, and may be dangerous.

Can I leave my device for charging overnight?

Extended or continuous charging may shorten the battery lifetime, so do not leave a fully charged battery connected to a charger, but always unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use. In May 2007 we became the FIRST mobile manufacturer to put alerts into phones encouraging people to unplug their chargers.

What will happen if I don't use my battery?

If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time.

Where can I recycle my old charger/battery/device?

We now have take back and collection facilities in 85 countries around the world. These include many different ways to recycle your device.

  • Bring it back to any Nokia flagship store, authorized Nokia service point, or one of the many phone retailers, operators or municipalities who offer this service. For example:

    • China – Nokia set up a program with China Mobile and included other manufacturers to erect "green boxes" to collect unwanted phones in 40 major cities and Nokia care points in China. This program is now nationwide and includes collection of any brand of mobile device or accessories.
    • USA – Pre-paid postage labels to return phones and accessories, placing prepaid and addressed recycling envelopes in sales packages, and collaboration with eBay on its RethinkInitiative to return mobile devices free-of-charge.
    • Finland – Nokia and WWF launched a joint campaign in 2006 to distribute envelopes for the return of used mobile devices for recycling. For each returned mobile device and accessory, Nokia donated 2 Euros towards WWF Finland's climate change prevention work.
    • Europe – In EU countries (and Norway) Nokia has worked with other electronics producers to set up a country-wide electronics waste collection program funded by companies that produce electronic equipment.
  • Send it by mail back with a pre-paid voucher.
  • In a number of countries (US and UK) you can visit Nokia's website to print off a prepaid voucher and return your phone to us directly via the postal service.

Batteries

How long will a battery last?

Normal battery lifetime is around two years in normal use.

Will some of the features in the phone consume more battery power than others?

Many features in your device increase the demand on battery power and reduce the battery life. Also leaving applications running in the background increases the demand on battery power.

Can I use other than Nokia batteries in my device?

Always use original Nokia batteries for your safety and to get the best out of battery performance. To check that you are getting an original Nokia battery, purchase it from an authorized Nokia dealer and inspect the hologram label. Instructions on how to check your battery can be found at http://europe.nokia.com/batterycheck.

I have noticed that the battery doesn't work very well when it is cold/hot. Why is that?

Always try to keep the battery between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperatures reduce the capacity and life of the battery. A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily. Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatures below freezing.

What can I do if my mobile device accidentally gets wet?

If your device does get wet, remove the battery and allow the device to dry completely before replacing it.

My battery has a scratch/dent. Is that dangerous?

Never use any battery that is damaged.

  • The device parts are designed to hold together seamlessly, so do not attempt to open the device other than as instructed in the user guide. This can harm components such as the battery which is susceptible to scratches and cuts.
  • Also do not short-circuit the battery. For instance, when you carry a spare battery in your pocket and that (or rather the metal/golden color strips on the battery) comes in contact with a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen, the battery can be short-circuited.
  • Try not to drop, knock, or shake the device. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards and fine mechanics and may also harm the battery.
