  1. Make sure you have:
    • Accounts with existing IM services (such as Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger or Google Talk) or a Nokia account to chat within the Ovi community
    • A data service plan with your operator
  2. Set up Chat on your phone

    Instant Messaging is available out of the box on many new Nokia devices. On your phone:

    • Select "Set up Chat" from the homescreen
    • Select "Start Setup"
    • Select your preferred internet connection
    • Choose "Chat" from the download list
  3. Start chatting

    Once you've selected your preferred IM services, log in with your existing ID and password and enjoy chatting in real time with your friends on the go.

QDo I have to have the same status or presence across all IM communities?
A

No - you set your status or availability within each community as you like, just as you would while using instant messaging on your computer. Thus you could sign in as 'invisible' in one community, but 'available' in another, all at the same time.

QHow much does it cost to use Instant Messaging on my phone?
A

While Nokia does not charge for instant messaging, data charges from your wireless carrier may apply. It is best to have a data plan for your phone - your wireless carrier (T-Mobile, Vodafone, etc.) can provide you with cost information about its mobile data service plans.

QI do not see one of the IM communities that I want to use – how do I add them?
A

Nokia is working with the major IM providers and additional communities will continue to become available on your phone. In many cases this will happen automatically, without requiring any action on your part like downloading an update to the Chat application.
