Tips for better videos with Adobe Premiere Elements

Up-scaling to DVD resolution

The Nokia N93 creates MPEG4 video at VGA resolution, which is 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels high at 30 frames per second (fps). DVD resolution is 720 x 576 pixels at 25 fps for PAL markets (Europe, Asia excepting Japan) and 720 x 480 pixels at 29.97 fps for NTSC markets (USA, Japan).

To create a DVD, the Adobe Premiere Elements makes a default "up-conversion" to the required screen resolution and adjusts the timing for PAL frame rates.

This may result in degraded quality or "ghosts" in the video.

Controlling up-scaling

Premiere Elements automatically up-converts to fill the DVD screen. However, it is possible to keep the clip at VGA resolution. When playing back via DVD, a black border will appear around the image, but this may be preferable to the degradation in quality through up-scaling.

To turn off up-scaling, right click on each clip in the timeline and un-tick Scale to Frame size.
