Find locations


You have several ways to find a location with your Nokia N97 device. You can search for a place with an address, or you can search for the place directly from the map. If you want to find a location added to your contact list, that is also possible. Please read the instructions here.


My current position

If you want to know your position at the moment, just activate the GPS connection and select in the Maps view Options > My position. The red circle shows your current location on the map. If your GPS connection is not activated, your last known location is shown.

You can use the mobile network to find your current location, even indoors. This is faster but less accurate than with GPS, and you cannot use the location as a starting point for navigation. To use the mobile network for positioning, select the network-based positioning method from the device settings. When you start the Maps application and your GPS connection is ready, GPS replaces the mobile network as the positioning method.


To find an address

To search and find other places than your current location, in the Maps view:

  1. Select Options > Search > Addresses.
  2. Enter the full or partial address of the location in the search fields.
  3. Select Options > Search.
  4. Select the correct destination from the list shown on the screen by tapping it.

You can choose whether you want to see the location on the map, receive walking instructions or driving instructions to it, add the location to My places or to your route. Select the desired function by tapping it.


Move on the map

If you do not know the address, you can also find the place directly from the map.

To move on the map, drag the map. The map is oriented towards north by default. When you have an active connection and browse the map on the display, a new map is automatically downloaded if you scroll to an area which is not covered by maps already downloaded.

When you find the desired place on the map, tap it, and the correct address is shown in the
top-left corner.

The maps are automatically saved in the device memory or on a compatible memory card (if inserted). To zoom in and out on the map, select + and -.

Import a location address from Contacts

If you have added address information for your contact, you can import the location to Maps. While in the Maps view:

  1. Select Options > Search > Addresses.
  2. Select Options > Select from Contacts.
  3. Tap the contact to select it.
  4. To see the location on the map, select Options > Search.
