We can add contacts to a device by synchronising it with a computer application such as Microsoft Outlook, or Nokia Communication Centre within Nokia PC Suite. With Nokia Communication Centre we can also open, edit, save and print contacts from compatible devices.
To add a contact to a device please use the following the steps:
In the Contacts view of Nokia Communication Centre you can edit and manage the contact information stored on your phone. In addition to the single contacts stored on your phone, contact groups are also displayed if supported by your phone model. The contact information you can store includes multiple phone numbers, email addresses, and contact images.
Only the contacts stored in the phone's internal memory are displayed in the Contacts view. If you have numbers stored on the SIM card only, you must first copy them to the phone's internal memory in order to see them in the Contacts view.
If the outgoing and incoming calls don't succeed any more after upgrading Nokia N97 to version 20.x.019, check the following things:
Note that the reset command will wipe out the user data and you need to take a backup to preserve your data, or synchronise the data with Ovi Suite / PC Suite. If the problem reappears after restoring from the backup, reset the device again and use Ovi Suite / PC Suite sync to restore the data in your device.
GPS (Global Positioning System) problems, lost GPS signal or poor GPS reception may occur if the GPS antenna gets covered by hand or something else. This can heavily affect the GPS performance.
The GPS antenna is located under the camera module area. Care should be taken to avoid covering the antenna. For example, when holding the device by two hands when the device is folded open, the left hand could easily cover the GPS antenna and cause performance issues.
If using Nokia Maps application, check also that the latest version is installed in the device to be sure that all the GPS performance improvements of the Maps application are included. Nokia Maps updates can be checked and installed by going to Menu > Applications > SW Update.
When upgrading Nokia N97 from a previous version to v20.x.019 with Nokia Software Updater, the scrolling in the Ovi Store client may not work properly after the upgrade.
The problem can be fixed by installing a new Ovi Store client via the Download! application. Select Menu > Applications > Download! and install the new Ovi Store client.

The default ringing tone is played instead of the user-defined ringing tone if the system resources are low and there's not enough resources to play the user-defined tone. The issue may occur e.g. when there's a large number of applications concurrently active.
In order to get the user-defined ringing tone played again, close some of the active applications. Press and hold the menu key to see the list of currently active applications.
The backlight of the touch screen switches off when the Light time-out expires. It does, however, not necessarily mean that the device gets locked at the same time. If the Keypad autolock period is longer than the Light time-out value, the device will stay in the unlocked state for a while after the backlight has switched off. During this period, if you slide the lock switch, you actually lock the device and the backlight does not turn on. You need to slide the lock switch a second time to get the backlight on.
Check the following settings:
The Keypad autolock period value should be shorter than the Light time-out value to avoid sliding the lock switch twice.
A data connection is automatically established when the online mode has been selected in the home screen settings. The home screen widgets can then automatically fetch the latest information from internet and show it on the home screen.
The automatic data connection can be disabled by selecting the offline mode in the home screen settings:
Note that the data connection may be opened automatically also by some other applications, for example by the email clients. The home screen setting doesn't affect the connections opened by these applications.
You can check the available software updates by selecting Menu > Applications > SW update. With Software update (network service), you can check and download the available updates for your device software or applications.
To download and install an update, select the update and select Options > Start update.
When the device is locked, the phone call can be answered by swiping the Answer arrow on the touch screen in the direction of the arrow.
For more call options, the device can be unlocked by swiping the Unlock arrow or by using the lock switch.
