GENERAL TIPS AND TRICKS

1. SETTING ACCESS POINT:

1.1 Setting up the right connection

Having trouble connecting? Make sure that, when the application asks "select internet access point", you choose something with the word web or internet in the name. Access points that say MMS, WAP, or “streaming” may block uploading.

2. SETTINGS FOR UPLOAD:

2.1 Uploading costs

Your mobile operator may charge by the amount of data you transfer or by a flat rate fee per month. Flat rate is usually the cheaper and a better option. Either way, here are some tips to save money and uploading time:

  1. Use wireless LAN to connect, if your device supports it.
  2. When uploading photos, reduce the image size—larger files take longer to upload and may cost more. Go to Gallery> Options> Online Services> Settings> My Accounts> then choose your account, select “Upload image size” and select either medium or small, depending on which quality you are happy with. Try this out a few times on each to see.

  3. For video, reduce the capture quality/ resolution in the camera settings. In video camera mode, go to Options> Settings> Video quality, and select “medium” or a similar setting.

Note that this means you’ll be capturing the video file at a lower quality, which is fine for uploading to the web, but probably not what you want for editing home movies and burning to DVD.

3. FINDING NEW SERVICES:

Go to Share Online main Menu, go “Options”, “Add New Account”, then “Update Services”. Application goes online and looks for new service providers. This takes a short while (30 secs). In this case “Share on Ovi” service appears, ready for activation. The list of providers depends on your device and your country.

4. SHARE ON OVI - UPDATING CHANNELS:

To get your new channels you have to update the service. Open the main view in the Share Online Application, select “Options”, “Update services”. The update of the service might take some time. When the update is finished, define your auto-update settings again (manual or automatic feed refresh).

5. SHARE ON OVI - DEFINE DEFAULT CHANNEL FOR ONE CLICK UPLOAD:

Highlight the service you want to use. Select “Options”, then “Set as default”. Select the channel you want to be the default and select “ok”. You get a confirmation that the default service is set

In supported devices, an icon is shown after photo/video capture and clicking on this will send the content to the previously set default channel.

6. TIME SAVING / EFFICIENCY:

Other tips

- While your pictures or video are uploading, push the blue menu key to move the application into the background so you can use your device for text messaging or other phone functions. Just avoid using other web services, like browsing, while uploading.

When posting to your blog, you can skip the last step of Options> Send by just hitting the green call button to send.
