Nokia takes all security issues seriously. We are determined to be active in the development of security controls and preventive measures and are following the latest malware development trends globally. Users can help to protect their mobile device against harmful applications by their own actions, for example by exercising caution when accepting installation of applications sent via Bluetooth, transferring of data using MMC memory cards from unknown sources or when opening MMS attachments as they may include harmful software to their mobile devices.
Third parties may also offer anti-virus solutions, please consult your anti-virus vendor for further information and terms of use. Please also see FICORA (Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority) Information Security Guidelines for Mobile Phone Users.
According to current information, HatiHati.A is a worm-like application that spreads via MMC memory cards affecting mobile devices running S60 2nd edition on Symbian OS. It copies itself to any inserted memory card and copies itself from the MMC memory cards to new devices. Once the worm copies itself to a new device, it starts sending SMS messages to a predefined number. If the operator bills the user on the basis of the number of SMS messages sent, additional costs may be incurred by these SMS messages.
If you are running an anti-virus application and are notified of HatiHati.A detection, please make sure your anti-virus software is up to date. If you are using the unauthorized re-packing of HatiHati.A, you should delete the application.
To remove the malware, search it in the list of installed applications on your mobile device and uninstall the application. Some anti-virus vendors such as F-Secure have compiled description summaries, disinfection instructions and software for removing the HatiHati.A malware, please refer to e.g. HatiHati.A Malware Information Page and the FAQ on using F-Secure Anti-Virus solution for S60 OS mobile devices.
