Mobile "malware" is a general term used for malicious mobile software that aims to harm a mobile phone or cause nuisance to the user by causing an increased telephone bill, for example.
Nokia aims to develop security controls and preventive measures against malware in order to minimize the security risks related to our devices. We think security is an element that should be embedded in the product and service architecture, and affect throughout the product lifecycle.
To date, the threat is small, and unlikely to mirror the risk profile of the fixed line internet. Consumers don't need to worry if they exercise proper caution when using the device. Awareness against the loss of device and installation of unknown software is needed.
The easiest way to prevent malware is to be careful when accepting applications sent via Bluetooth or when opening MMS attachments or when opening e-mail attachments.. Moreover, do not approve or download content to a mobile device from an unknown or unreliable source.
If you have a S60 smartphone, your device gives a security warning during installation if the content is not signed (certified by a known third party). In this case you should carefully weigh whether the content is coming from a trusted source and whether you can download it securely.
There are several options. You may update your phone software using free of charge Nokia Software Updater.
For 3rd party solutions you may look for an antivirus software solution, which are nowadays offered by several leading antivirus software vendors at their websites. Furthermore, vendors of anti-virus software often provide advice on their websites about how to remove the malware from a device.
Regarding mobile security, the same warranty principles are valid with mobile phones. The user has a freedom to select which applications he/she wants to install on their device but this freedom comes with a certain responsibility. The consumer is able to protect their mobile device against harmful applications by taking very simple measures, some example advised above.
For specific warranty terms, please refer to the user guide of your device.
