Sort and manage text messages

Keep all your text messages and conversations organised with Nokia Ovi Suite’s smart groups and filters.

Smart groups
With smart groups you can automatically organise messages in a way that suits you: by date, contact, message type or device. Here’s how it works.

Create a new smart group
In the folder list of Nokia Ovi Suite’s Messaging view, select Add smart group… Enter the name of your new Smart Group.

Choose which messages should appear in this smart group by setting rules from the pull-down menus under Match all of the following rules.

You can include several rules for a smart group. For example, a smart group might contain messages that are:

  • sent to your work device rather than your personal device
  • dated this week
  • unread
  • from a particular client


Manage smart groups
You can copy any smart group by right-clicking on the folder and selecting Copy rules. Nokia Ovi Suite creates a new smart group with the same rules: edit the group’s name and select Save to create the new group. This is a quick way to create several groups with similar rules.

To edit a smart group, select its folder and then select Edit > Edit smart group.

To delete a smart group, select its folder and then select Edit > Delete. Your messages won’t be deleted and will still be available in the All folder.

Managing text messages
You can also find messages quickly by using Filter to search for words in the message. To filter your messages:

  1. Select the folder of messages you want to filter – either All or one of your smart group folders.
  2. In the Filter messages box below the list of messages, enter the text that you want to filter by, for example “holiday”.
  3. Messages featuring those words appear in the folder window. You can follow conversations in the conversation window
