If you have joined the Comes With Music service, see also Digital Rights Management (DRM) and licences.
Nokia Music only supports DRM licences in the Windows Media format (WMDRM).
To play DRM-protected tracks in your music collection, to burn them to a CD, or to transfer them to your mobile device, you will need a licence. If a track is missing a licence, you may need to go online to download or purchase it from Nokia Music Store.
To play, burn, or transfer any DRM-protected content, your PC must be authorised. If your PC has not been authorised previously, the first time you use Nokia Music to perform a DRM-related action, you are prompted to download and install a security update. You must allow this process to complete if you want to play, burn, or transfer DRM-protected tracks.
When you transfer a DRM-protected track from your PC to your mobile device, a transfer licence which allows the track to be played on the mobile device is generated on the PC and transferred with the track. This requires that you still have sufficient transfer rights for the track.
When you transfer a DRM-protected track from your mobile device to your PC, Nokia Music may need to download a new licence for the track. If necessary, this is done automatically the next time you play, transfer or burn the track. Note that to do this, you may need to go online and sign in to your Nokia Music Account.
You can only burn a DRM-protected track to a CD if there are sufficient burn rights remaining for the track.
All downloads from Nokia Music Store use WMDRM protection. With a WMDRM licence, you can usually play a protected track an unlimited number of times, and burn or transfer it to a mobile device a limited number of times. The actual number of transfers depends on the rights granted by the record label. To check the number of play, burn, and transfer rights remaining for a track, right-click the track, and select Edit track details > Properties tab.
You receive at least three WMDRM licences with every download, so that you have a replacement licence if you lose the original one. You cannot back up or copy the licence manually.
