1. Which features does WAP 1.2.1 support in the Nokia
8910i?

Nokia 8910i integrates the latest WAP features with support for WAP release 1.2.1. It enables the phone to receive "service message indicators" where a WAP page alert is displayed with a convenient link to a WAP site. This makes push-based mobile services such as stock alerts or continuous newscasts possible.

WAP release 1.2.1 also enables the Nokia 8910i to store cookies, much in the same way as cookies are stored in a PC web browser. The next time you visit a WAP site, the phone is able to recall what information you specifically looked at and display the same window.

The Nokia 8910i incorporates WTAI (Wireless Telephony Application Interface) Public Library, which enables you to make a phone call from a WAP site. With this application, it is no longer necessary to terminate a WAP session to make a phone call. Instead you can temporarily interrupt it to make the call, after which you automatically return to the site, for example when browsing a car rental site to reserve a car.

With vCard support it is possible to automatically save contact information, such as a business card listed on a WAP site, to the phone's memory. Similarly, vCal support allows you to save a calendar appointment from a WAP site to the phone's calendar.

2. Does the Nokia 8910i have high speed data functionality?

The Nokia 8910i has a built-in multi slot high-speed data modem and thus there is no need for a PCMCIA card or PC software to send/receive data. Connection from the phone to the PC can be made via infrared or Bluetooth.

3. What is the speed for HSCSD in the Nokia 8910i?

With HSCSD more than one time slot is allocated in the network to allow faster transmission speed by low extra investment of the network operator. An increasing range of cellular operators are now offering HSCSD thus allowing use of different configurations on top of the 14.4 kbps available with a single time slot:
  • 2+2 time slots for receiving 28.8 kbps & sending 28.8 kbps, for instance for fast e-mail handling
  • - 3+1 time slots for receiving 43.2 kbps & sending 14.4 kbps, for instance for fast Internet downloads
