With the Nokia 8910I, in addition to the content type
familiar from SMS, text, MMS messages can contain still
images or Nokia ringing tones. A multimedia message is
a multimedia presentation created by using e.g. predefined
templates.
Alternatively, readymade content can be obtained from
a third-party content provider. The message is delivered
using WAP push to the recipient's phone and the recipient
is notified only after the whole message has been received.
An MMS message is a multimedia presentation in a single
entity; it is not a text file with attachments. Message
delivery is using WAP transport and any bearer capable
of WAP can be used.
In the case of the Nokia 8910i, an MMS application will
use active MMS connection settings while opening the GPRS
connection. MMS is always sent over GPRS signaling. The
available bearer for MMS is GPRS.
You can create new MMS messages using pictures downloaded
to the phone Gallery application or by using images from
received MMS messages.
A received MMS message that includes non-copyright protected
content can be forwarded, but content editing is not possible.
Supported image formats are JPEG, GIF, animated GIF, OTA
BMP, PNG and WBMP. The format supported for the audio
part is the traditional Nokia monophonic ringing tone
(NRT).
Note that the Nokia 8910i does not support polyphonic
ringing tones, i.e. MIDI format. The audio format supported
part can be received and saved as a ringing tone in the
Nokia 8910i, but it can not be sent or forwarded.
The Nokia 8910i supports the sending, receiving and forwarding
of MMS messages up to 45 KB. In addition to media contents,
value-added services content such as wallpapers can be
delivered to the phone using MMS.
The service provider can make the content available for
preview on WAP and have the delivery done over MMS. This
makes the Nokia 8910i an interesting platform also for
service and content providers.
Selected copyrighted content can be forward blocked to
protect the interests of the content provider.
