   AAC and MP3 Audio Formats

The Nokia 6230 phone’s Music Player can play both the popular MP3 format and the more efficient AAC format.

AAC and MP3 are file compression formats especially designed for sound data. Using these file formats, the file sizes can be dramatically reduced without audible loss in sound quality.

The compression method used by both the AAC and MP3 formats is the same: to remove the less important sound details the listener won’t hear while focusing on the main subject of the sound. This method is called psychoacoustic sound compression.
