Tips for Messaging

Messaging for changing situations
If you are busy:
  • For faster writing: use the dictionary.
  • For quick sending of typical messages: use message templates.
  • For faster sending to many recipients: create and use distribution lists.
If you have a lot to say:
  • Make your SMS message more impressive by attaching a picture
  • For telling more than one thing in an MMS: create a slide show or write 5000 characters.
  • For communicating discreetly, interactively and quickly: Chat.
Traditional and predictive text input
You can key in text when writing messages either the traditional way or by using predictive text input.
  • The predictive text input is indicated by .
  • The traditional text input is indicated by .
To change the input mode while writing text, press Options and select:
  • Dictionary on to set the predictive text input on
  • Dictionary off to revert to traditional text input
Using predictive text input
You can key in any letter with a single key press. The predictive text input is based on a built-in dictionary to which you can also add new words.
  1. Start writing a word using the keys to . Press each key only once for an individual letter. The word changes after each keystroke.
  2. When you have finished writing the word and it is correct, confirm it by adding a space with .
If the word is not correct, press repeatedly or select the option Matches. When the word that you want appears, confirm it.

Word found not in the dictionary
If the ? character is displayed after the word, the word that you intended to write is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, press Spell, key in the word (traditional text input is used) and press Save.

Compound words
To write compound words, key in the first part of the word and confirm it by pressing . Write the last part of the word and confirm the word.

Characters and numbers
The character case is indicated by , or next to the text input indicator. You can change the character case by pressing . The number mode is indicated by , and you can change between letter and number modes by pressing and holding .

Writing language
To change the language for writing while writing text, press Options and select Writing language.

Tips for writing text
  • To insert a space, press .
  • To insert a number while in letter mode, press and hold the desired number key.
  • Move the cursor to the left, right, up or down with the scroll keys.
  • To insert a special character when using the traditional text input, press .
  • To insert a special character when using the predictive text input, press and hold , or select the option Insert symbol.
Distribution lists
If you are occasionally sending text messages to a fixed group of people, you can define a distribution list.
To edit the distribution lists, press Menu and select Messages, Text messages and Distribution lists:
  • Create a new distribution list by pressing Add.
  • To add members to an existing list, press View and then press Add.
To send a message to a distribution list after you have written a message, press Options, select Sending options and Send to list.
