Find your way there with the Nokia 5140 phone. The digital compass shows direction graphically with a compass rose and numerically in degrees.
While using compass, hold the phone horizontally by using the bubble level in the top left of the phone.
Show the compass
Press Menu and select Applications, Extras and Compass.
Calibrate the compass
Before you can use the compass, you need to calibrate it.
- If you are using the compass for the first time, Calibrate first is shown.
- To start the calibration, press Yes.
- Hold the phone horizontally by using the bubble level, and rotate the phone. When the calibration is finalized, Compass calibrated is shown.
Set the declination
You need also to set the declination in your location and each direction will be adjusted with that value. You can find the declination values in special maps or lists of locations.
- Press Options and select Settings and Declination.
- Select Set declination, or if you have not set the declination, select On.
- Enter the declination value in degrees and press OK.
- Select the direction of the declination, East or West.
Set the direction
You can set the compass to show an arrow pointing to a specified direction, e.g. a landmark in the distance.
- When the compass is shown, point the phone to the desired direction.
- Press Set dir.
- The arrow appears on the display pointing to the correct direction. Also the direction is shown in degrees in the top right corner.
Reset the direction by pressing Options and select Set direction.

Compass should always be used properly calibrated. Electric fields, large metal objects and other external circumstances may cause changes in accuracy of the compass. Never rely solely on the compass of your Nokia 5140 phone.

Always use your phone calibrated.

The direction in which the compass needle points is referred to as magnetic north, and the angle between magnetic north and the true north direction is called magnetic declination.
