WAP
What can you do with WAP? Which WAP release does the Nokia 5100 support and what are the benefits of it? What is WTAI? What can you do with WAP? The Nokia 5100 supports mobile Internet services based on the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) open technology standard. The Services menu allows you to access services supported by your network such as news, weather reports, flight times, dictionaries etc. Within the Services menu you can save the addresses of such services as bookmarks and then use the services via the Bookmarks option. Bookmarks can be sent Over The Air (SMS) to and received from the Nokia 5100 to another compatible phone. The Nokia 5100 is capable of displaying both Chinese and Latin character based WAP services as well as sending Chinese characters from submitted WAP forms (for Chinese speaking markets only). Note that the content of each service depends on the content provider of that service. To use such a service, follow the instructions provided by the content provider. Available bearers for WAP are: GPRS and GSM Data (CSD). Which WAP release does the Nokia 5100 support and what are the benefits of it? The Nokia 5100 integrates the latest WAP features with support for WAP release 1.2.1. It enables the phone to receive "service message indicators" where a WAP page alert is displayed with a convenient link to a WAP site. This makes push-based mobile services such as stock alerts or continuous newscasts possible. WAP release 1.2.1 also enables the Nokia 5100 to store cookies, much in the same way as cookies are stored in a PC web browser. The next time you visit a WAP site, the phone is able to recall what information you specifically looked at and display the same window. What is WTAI? The Nokia 5100 incorporates WTAI (Wireless Telephony Application Interface) Public Library, which enables you to make a phone call from a WAP site. With this application, it is no longer necessary to terminate a WAP session to make a phone call. Instead, you can temporarily interrupt it to make the call, after which you automatically return to the site, for example when browsing a car rental site to reserve a car. With vCard support it is possible to automatically save contact information such as a business card listed on a WAP site to the phone's memory. Similarly, vCal support allows you to save a calendar appointment from a WAP site to the phone's calendar. |
