Creating a dial-up connection with the Nokia 5100
The instructions for creating a dial-up connection vary depending on which version of Windows you are using. If in doubt, please refer to your Windows help files. The instructions below provide information on creating either a GSM data or GPRS connection. For information on phone numbers and specific settings, please contact your service provider.

In Windows 98
In Windows ME
In Windows 2000
In Windows XP

In Windows 98:
    1. Go to My Computer > Dial up networking > Make new connection.
    2. In the first window, add a name for the connection (you can choose freely) and then Select a device (Nokia 5100 cable or IrDA).
    3. In the third window eEnter the phone number of your Internet Service Provider.
    4. Click Finish.
    5. To change the Properties of the connection later, right click on the connection and select Properties.
Note: If you have a problem with making a new connection, it may help to open the Properties dialog of the dial- up connection, and then on the General tab, uncheck the box Use area code and dialing properties box. You should then add the complete number (international code+area code+ phone number) into the Phone number box.

In Windows ME:
    1. Go to My Computer > Control Panel > Dial up networking > Make new connection.
    2. In the first window, you need to add a the name for the connection (you can choose freely) and then Select a device (Nokia 5100 cable or IrDA).
    3. In the third window eEnter the phone number of your Internet Service Provider.
    4. In the final window, click Finish.
    5. To change the Properties of the connection later, right click on the connection and select Properties.

In Windows 2000:
    1. Go to My Computer > Control Panel > Network and Dial up networking > Make new connection.
    2. In the first window, choose either Dial up to Internet or Dial up to private network.
    3. Select a device (Nokia 5100 cable or IrDA).
    4. eEnter the phone number of your Iinternet Sservice Pprovider. It is easier to uncheck the box Use dialing rules rules box and then add the complete whole number (international code+area code+ phone number) into the Phone number box.
    5. Select whether you want to Create the connection Only for yourself or For all users.
    6. Depending on which options you choose in step 2, you mayde need to go through other steps such as setting up mail accounts.


In Windows XP:
    1. Go to My Computer.
    2. Open Control Panel.
    3. Open Network Connections.
    4. Go to File > New Connection... Or Click on Create a new connection.
In the New Connection Wizard:
    1. Click Next.
    2. Select Connect to the Internet.
    3. Select the way you want to setup your Internet connection.
If you select "Set up my connection manually" then follow these steps:
    1. Choose Connect using dial-up modem and click Next
    2. Select modem from the list e.g "Modem - Nokia 5100 (Infrared)(COM6)"
    3. Type in a name of the connection (it can be whatever your choose) and click Next.
    4. Type in the phone number of you Internet connection which you got from your ISP and click Next
    5. Select the connection availability either "Anyone's use" or "My use only". The difference between these is that if you have multiple user accounts on your Win XP computer, you can make the connection invisible to other users if you select "My use only". Click Next.
    6. Type in the User name, Password, Confirm password and select the options you wish. Click Next.
    7. Click Finish.
