Creating a connection
You can connect your Nokia 3650 to a PC in two ways: using an infrared connection or using a Bluetooth connection.
Using an infrared connection
- Activate the infrared connection from the phone. (Go to Menu, open the Connectivity folder and select Modem.)
- Make sure that the infrared port of the phone is facing the infrared port of your PC, and that infrared communication is enabled on the PC.
Note: If you are using Windows XP and infrared connection, you must update the modem driver manually before you can make a connection.
- Download the infrared modem driver from the support page for the Nokia 3650
- Connect your phone to your PC. Your PC should recognise the connection and install your phone as a standard modem
- Go to the Device Manager (Control Panel > System > Hardware tab)
- In the list under modems, you should see the Standard modem over... Select this, right click with your mouse and select Properties
- Go to the Driver tab of the Properties dialog and select Update driver
- A hardware wizard opens. Click Next and then select Search for a suitable driver
- Select Specify location and then Browse for the location where you stored the inf file
Click OK and then next. Click Yes or OK on the digital signature window and then select Finish. Your driver is now updated and device manager should show Nokia 3650 in the list under modem.
Note: If your PC is running Windows 2000 and you want to use an IR connection, make sure that you have upgraded it with the IrCOMM patch. Without the IrCOMM patch installed, you will not be able to make data calls with your PC using your Nokia 3650 phone. Updates for Windows are available from the Microsoft Download Centre at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/security/q252795/default.asp
Using a Bluetooth connection (These instructions apply if you are using the Socket Bluetooth card or Nokia DTL-4)
Ensure that a Bluetooth card is inserted into the PC Card slot of your computer, and that the Bluetooth software is installed.
- Insert the socket Bluetooth card into your PC
- Activate the Bluetooth connection on your phone (Menu > Connectivity > Bluetooth > On)
- Open up the Bluetooth Neighbourhood software. (You can find a shortcut to this on your desktop)
- In Bluetooth Neighbourhood, go to Menu > Bluetooth > Device Discovery
- When the Bluetooth Neighbourhood has found your phone, drag the DUN icon from the left hand side the Window, onto the icon representing your phone
- Accept the connection with your phone
Now go to the dial up connection you have created right click it with your mouse and click Connect. Your phone should now start to connect
If the connection is unsuccessful, try the following:
- Check that Bluetooth is activated on your phone
- Check that you are trying to connect to the correct device
- Check that the distance between your phone and your PC is not more than 10 meters
- Delete your device from the Bluetooth Neighborhood (select device, click your right mouse button and select Delete) and then run the Device Discovery again. After you have done this this, repeat steps 1-6
