What is the Nokia Search software for Nokia mobile phones?
The Nokia search software is a device-specific solution that is accessible and easy to use. The software is not a Nokia search engine, but rather a solution that enables you to get access to the best search engines on the market across different search categories.
What can I search for?
With leading search engines easily accessible and integrated, you can search globally for information and images on the Web and locally for services such as taxis, restaurants, hotels, and flower shops. You can get mobile-specific content too.
What is the difference between Nokia search and Web search?
While Web search is used for finding sites and information on the Web, Nokia search finds content and information that can be used with a mobile phone. A Nokia search engine finds results that are not only specific to your search criteria, but also specific to the particular kind of phone you are using.
Can I get the Nokia Search application for my existing phone?
You can download the free mobile search application (see the Download section) if you have a compatible Nokia mobile phone. New compatible Nokia phone models are coming all the time. See the compatible Nokia mobile phones section for more details.

I'm unable to install Search, installation fails because of "File corrupted" or "Unable to install" error, what should I do?
First, shutdown and restart the device. Then, try the installation again. Freeing some memory by deleting or uninstalling unnecessary data or applications may help. If the problem persists, delete the downloaded application from your phone, download a new application and go through the installation process.
How do I delete the Nokia Search application?
The Nokia Search application should be saved in Tools > App Manager on your Nokia mobile phone. Go to the App Manager and look for the file called "Search" that is about 2-3 MB in size. Select the item and then select "Remove" from the Options menu. The software will then be deleted. You also need to remove each of the different plug-ins. The plug-ins are named "Search-XXXX plug-in."
How do I open the Nokia Search application?
Select the Search icon on your menu, and you are ready to go.
Why are there different search categories such as Web, local, image, and content?
The different search categories allow a more focused search. It means that the results that you get back will be more accurate and relevant.
How do I start a search?
Just type your search word or phrase into the query box of the Nokia search software and click on the center key or the left menu key. A long press of the arrow key is used to change between letters and numbers.
What is the best way to find what I am looking for?
Click on any one of the answers from the Search Engine Results Page. Then tab through them one-by-one on the Details page. This way you can see all the different results pages with more information.
How do I get detailed information from the search results?
Just click on the search result you are interested in and you will go to the Details page. This page gives more information and options for actions to use the results.
How do I get to a website?
Choose one of the search results and then click on "Browse." This will launch the browser and take you to the web page.
What if I get poor search results?
It may be that you are using the wrong category or search solution. Check to make sure that when you search for things like taxis, you are using the local search category, for information, you are using the Web search category, and for pictures, you are using the image search category.
You can refine a search by going to the options menu or double clicking on the results link. If there is more than one search engine for the category, try checking the results of a different engine.
Can I compare the search results with those from the non-default search engines in the same category?
Yes, if the search category (i.e., "Local") has more than one search provider, just look for the tab on the results page and tab right or left to see results from the other search engines in that category.
How do I change the default search engine?
Choose the search category, (Web, local, content, or images) then go to the options menu and click "Select service."
How are the search results organized?
This depends entirely on the individual search provider. Each company uses its own know-how and expertise to organize how the search results are presented.
How can I make a more detailed search?
Click on the search provider you are using. You will enter a detailed breakdown of that particular search engine. You can then look for more detailed search engine categories to focus in on your selection. For example, click on Yell or Eniro local and you will find more detailed categories for that search engine.
Where is the total number of search results shown?
When you get back search results, the first line is the search results line. If you look at the pop-up associated with this result, it has the total number of results for the search category.
How fast is the browser?
The speed of the browser and the page download speed is dependent on the network provided by your carrier. The browser software is separate from the Nokia search software. When returning to the Nokia search software, please exit the browser.
How do I find a bookmark once I have saved it in the Nokia Search application?
All bookmarks are saved in the browser software. You can go to the browser at a later time to use the bookmarks directly.
What is Local search used for?
Local search finds businesses and services in your local area. It is used for finding information from local directories.
What if my search is location specific?
You do not need to put the location in the first query box. For location-sensitive searches, you will be prompted to type a location in the second query box.
What is media roaming?
As with existing roaming between different carrier networks, with media roaming you are automatically connected to a network in a new country without having to do anything. With media roaming, new content specifically relevant to the location is updated automatically. This is particularly important when making local searches, for example
How do I use media roaming?
When you go to a new country, just click on the Nokia search software and it will ask you if you want to have your phone's search settings automatically tailored to the new country. Don't worry, you can revert back to your native country's search engine at any time by just going into the options menu and selecting the country of your choice.
What is the "Country/Region" option?
You can manually change your country for access to the different search providers in those countries. Go to the Options menu and select Change Country/Region.
How do I get the mobile map feature?
At the moment, this feature is only available in local search. Just click on the map icon (when available) at the top of the results page. All 10 results are shown on the map if they have geocoded information.
How do I use the mobile maps?
The 5-way key is used to pan and the * and # keys are used for zooming. These features are always on. The number keys are used for short cuts to the search results. When the icon is red, that result is selected.
Why is the mobile map zoomed out so far?
For queries that cover an entire city, the search results may be scattered all over the city. The zoom level is adjusted to cover all the points. You can choose a point by using the 5-way key to pan, and then selecting it.
How can I speed up the map zooming process?
You can go to the Options menu and pre-select different zoom levels (street, city, or country).
How can I get more than 10 search results when on the mobile maps?
Go to the Options menu and select the next 10 search results, or go back and click the Next 10 link in the results view.
How can I save the mobile map for later use?
Go to the Options menu and click Save map. A screenshot of the map will be saved and stored in the phone's Gallery. You can then use it later or send it via MMS to a friend.
What is Web search used for?
Web search is specifically for finding websites - either standard or mobile websites.
What is Web search used for?
Content search is used for finding mobile content such as wallpapers and ring tones, as well as news, weather, and media that is specifically tailored to Nokia mobile phones.
What kind of content is available?
This search category is specifically for search providers that supply mobile consumable content. In most cases there may be a charge for acquiring the content. Content can be anything from ring tones, wallpaper, music clips, games, and horoscopes to weather reports and news articles. In the future, new content may be added to these existing search engines.
Where is the content saved once I have purchased it?
The content is saved to your Nokia mobile phone's Gallery in the applicable folder for the specific item you have acquired.
Can I make copies of the content or share it with my friends?
This is dependent on the digital rights management determined by that service provider. Please consult directly with the search service provider for more details.
What is My Content search for?
My Content search is a quicker way to find contacts, calendar events, to-do entries, text/SMS messages, email and any other files in your phone.
How can I limit my search to just calendar events, or to-do entries or notes?
Click the “My Content” search in the Nokia search main view and you’ll see a list of categories above the search box. Selecting one of the categories allows you to target your search to that specific category.
Why can’t I get My Content search on my Nokia phone?
My Content search is not supported on S60 2nd edition devices such as N72, N70, N90, 3230, 7610, 6682, 6681, 6680, 6260, 6670, 6630, and 6620. We’re working on making this available to everybody, so keep checking back!
What is image search used for?
Image search is used to find images on the Web. Type in a search word and the results will contain images of that word.
Why is it that some images don't load?
This is due to the search engine index. Even if the image is shown as a thumbnail, it is not always necessarily available. Thumbnail loading speed is dependent on the network, so please be patient. If 30 seconds pass without the image loading, please try again.
How do I find an image once I have saved it in the Nokia Search application?
All images are saved in your Nokia mobile phone's Gallery. Go to the Gallery to view and use saved images.

What is the size of the Nokia Search application and where is it stored?

What is the average data size per request?
The figures below are meant as a guide only:
Web Search - 20 search results or approximately 40 KB per request.
Image Search - 20 search results or approximately 40 KB per request.
Local Search - 10 search results or approximately 40 KB per request.
Content Search - This is dependent on the search engine.
Mobile Mapping session - This is dependent on the panning or zooming of the mobile maps, however about 40 KB per session for typical use.

What is a plug-in?
A plug-in is an auxiliary program that works with a software package to enhance its capability. For example, plug-ins are added to Web browsers to enable them to support new types of content (audio, video, etc.). In the case of the Nokia search software, plug-ins provide access to the different search engines and are about 20 KB - 50 KB in size.
The Nokia Search application asks me about "updates." What does this mean?
When there are new search services available in new regions or globally, they can be downloaded to your Nokia mobile phone. New, improved versions of the existing search services (e.g. Local search) can also be dynamically downloaded when available.
How do I get new updates?
Whenever an update of any new plug-in is available, you will be notified when you turn on the Nokia search software. If you don't want the plug-in update, just select the "No" option and the system will no longer prompt you for that plug-in.
The next time a new plug-in is available, you will be prompted again. This time, the plug-in you refused the first time, plus the new plug-in, will be prompted. Select "Yes" or "No" to accept it or not.
When do I get country-specific plug-ins?
Country-specific plug-ins are available only when you roam to that country or you change your country settings in the options menu. You will be requested to update your plug-ins if there is one available.
You can go to another country in your Options menu at any time and look for plug-ins. If you want to delete the plug-in, follow the removal process described in the Downloading and Installing FAQ section. You will be prompted with that new plug-in again when you go back to that country.
