Nokia and Windows Live Internet services
- What Windows Live services are available and how do they work?
- Nokia customers now have access to Windows Live services on their compatible mobile devices. These services are setting new standards for combining the customer’s mobile and online worlds. Services available are Hotmail, Messenger, Live Contacts and Spaces.
These services have been integrated into the compatible Nokia handsets. They are a core part of the device experience and are as easy to use as sending an SMS. Windows Live services offer the following benefits:
- The Windows Live contact list on your compatible device is synchronised with the Windows Live contacts on the web. You can see all your Windows Live contacts right next to your device contacts and their online presence and status is available at your fingertips.
- Windows Live Messenger has been enhanced to enable you to send voice clips, capture a moment with the digital camera and send photos via Instant messaging (IM), use emoticons to express your moods, and change your display picture to match your location.
- Windows Live Hotmail now plugs directly into the compatible Nokia device’s e-mail client and gives you quick and easy access to your e-mail. Composing an e-mail not only uses the Windows Live Contacts but also takes advantage of the compatible Nokia device’s features by allowing you to attach a photo, video, or voice recording.
- In which countries will these services be available?
- Go to www.Nokia.com/windowslive to see in which countries the services will be available.
Additional countries will be added over the next few months.
- Which specific Nokia devices will the services work on?
- Initially, these services will be available on selected Series 60 handsets including the Nokia N73 with later software versions, N76, N80ie, N93i, and the N95 devices. Additional devices will be added in the near future. At the moment, these services are offered directly to Nokia customers and should work with any compatible device not customised by the operator in the countries where these services are available.
Selected Windows Live services will also be preinstalled on certain new Series 40 devices in the near future.
A list of compatible devices can be found at www.Nokia.com/windowslive.
- How much will the services cost?
- Initially, the services will be provided free of charge as a trial. Later this year you may receive a notification explaining that, in order to continue using Messenger, you will have to pay a fee. You can then decide whether or not to continue using Windows Live Messenger. The other Windows Live services will continue to be free of charge. If you decide to subscribe to Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft will send a premium rate SMS that will typically cost about 2 euros per month. Data charges, including roaming fees, will also apply.
- Why are you charging a fee in some countries and offering the services for free in others?
- Pricing has been adapted to meet local market conditions and mobile operator requirements.
- Why is the download available for S60 devices, yet I have to wait until next year for Series 40?
- Development for the S60 application started earlier than the development for Series 40. While the S60 range allows customers to download applications directly to the compatible device, Series 40 needs to have the services preinstalled onto the device before it leaves the factory, and that takes longer.
- How do I get the application and start the services?
- To download the Windows Live services directly to your device, select the Download! application, and then the Windows Live services folder. If you do not see WinLive in Donwload!, select 'Options' menu, and 'Refresh list'.
WinLive should appear after the list has been updated.
After installation log in using your Windows Live ID. You will also have to accept the terms of use when signing in the first time or creating a new LiveID.
Please note that the availability of the Windows Live services on the Nseries devices listed may vary depending on your mobile operator.
- How do I get a Windows Live ID?
- If you do not have a Windows Live ID, go to http://login.live.com/ and create a Windows Live ID account by either using an existing e-mail address or a new Hotmail address. Once you have created a Windows Live ID, you will have access to new Hotmail, Messenger and Spaces accounts from your compatible Nokia device.
Account creation is currently only possible via PC.
- How do I synchronise my contacts and e-mail?
- When you sign in to Windows Live Messenger for the first time, you can choose if you want to synchronise your Windows Live contacts from the web to the compatible device. At any time, you can synchronise your inbox or Windows Live contacts by selecting Sync in the applications.
- If the services are not available in my country, can I still download them?
- The only approved place to get the services at the moment is through the Download! application on the compatible Nokia devices. At this time, the services are not in the Download! folders for countries that are not listed.
- What about all the web sites and blogs that claim to have the services available for Nokia devices?
- Currently, the only approved place to get the services is through the Download! application on the compatible Nokia devices. Downloading the services from any other source is strongly discouraged. Nokia Customer Care does not support unauthorised versions.
