Music

1. I can't see my device folder listed in iTunes. What should I do?

  • Click on the Nokia Multimedia Transfer icon in your menu bar and go to Device Settings... Make sure that you have selected "Enable iTunes Folder Transfer."
  • Make sure that your Nokia device is connected to your Mac either through Bluetooth or USB cable. Please see the section connect to your Mac if you need help getting connected.

2. What types of music files can I transfer?

Anything that plays in iTunes, such as iTunes Plus music files, MP3s you have ripped yourself, and other songs without digital rights management (DRM). Protected content is not transferred.

3. What is protected content?

Protected content is music, videos, or podcasts that use digital rights management (DRM) encryption to prevent unauthorized copying. Typically, it includes music purchased from the iTunes Store, or audiobooks purchased from Audible.com®. Some podcasts may also include copy prevention.

4. Will Nokia Multimedia Transfer transfer iTunes Plus songs (iTunes tracks without digital rights management)?

Yes. However, iTunes Plus files are modified during transfer by Nokia Multimedia Transfer so that they can be played on Nokia devices. The modification process does not affect the audio data, so the original quality of the iTunes Plus songs is preserved (this is different than version 1.0)

5. Is there an option that allows me to convert songs into a format that takes up less space on my device?

Nokia Multimedia Transfer converts songs into a 128 kbps AAC file format if the original file format is not supported by your Nokia device. A future update to Nokia Multimedia Transfer may include user control over this process. Please check back for future updates.

6. Why don't all the music tracks I selected in iTunes get transferred to my Nokia device?

You may not have enough space on your memory card. Alternatively some of the tracks you selected may be protected content.

7. Is music artwork transferred?

If you add your own album artwork to an album, it is included with the music files when transferred, but only the latest Nokia products will display this artwork. Artwork that is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store is not transferred.

8. Why aren't my play counts updated in iTunes after I play songs on my device?

This feature is currently not supported.

9. Why do some songs take a long time to transfer?

Some music files may need to be converted to a suitable format for your Nokia device. For example, music files in the Apple Lossless format will be converted to AAC format during transfer to your Nokia device. This conversion process slows down the transfer.

10. How does the memory fill-up feature work?

After all other transfers have been processed, fill-up creates one additional playlist with a random selection of music tracks from your iTunes library. When you enable the memory fill-up feature in Nokia Multimedia Transfer, you can specify the percentage of your Nokia device memory that will be filled up with random music tracks. Note that the fill-up percentage is on top of everything you already have stored on your memory card. For example, say you selected a fill-up percentage of 50%. If you have a 2 GB memory card and 600 MB is already in use, it would add another 400 MB of music, bringing the total to 1 GB – 50% of the card's capacity.

11. Why doesn't artist or genre show up on my device?

Support for displaying this information varies by device and file type. More recent products have improved support for both MP3 and AAC files.

12. How can I find the music I transferred to my device?

Open the device's music player and search for them in the Music library. Depending on your Nokia device model, you may also find them on your Nokia device in Gallery > Tracks.

13. Why can't I find my music files in my device's music player?

After transferring your need to refresh or update the music library in your Nokia device's music player.

14. Where are my music files stored on the device?

They are located on the memory card if your Nokia device has one, but the exact location may vary depending on the product. Typically, they can be found using the device's File Manager in Sound clips > External.

15. When does music fill-up happen?

This has to be manually started by selecting "Start Music Fill-up" or "Refresh Fill-up Music" from the Nokia Multimedia Transfer menu. This is not an automatic setting because the memory fill-up may take an extended length of time, and you may not want it to occur every time you connect.

16. How can I stop a music fill-up?

The best method is to go to the Nokia Multimedia Transfer menu and click on the [x] above the transfer progress bar. This stops the transfer, but you will find the fill-up playlist and any tracks that have been transferred to the device before cancelling.

Videos

1. Why do videos take so long to transfer?

Unless they are already in a suitable format for your Nokia device, they have to be converted into a format that your Nokia device supports. This can be a slow process and depends on the source format, speed of your Mac, the length of the file, and your connection (USB cable data transfers are generally faster than Bluetooth).

2. What video formats are supported?

Generally speaking, if QuickTime can play it, it will be transferable through Nokia Multimedia Transfer. The Nokia Multimedia Transfer application will attempt to convert the video file to a compatible MPEG4 file for your Nokia device.

Photos

1. I can't see my device folder listed in iPhoto. What should I do?

Make sure that your Nokia device is connected to your Mac either through Bluetooth or USB cable. Please see the section connect to your Mac if you need help getting connected.

2. Why are there duplicate photos in my device gallery?

When you import photos into iPhoto, you did not opt to delete the originals from your Nokia device. During the photo transfer Nokia Multimedia Transfer resizes your images into smaller files. So you will have both the originals and the smaller versions transferred from iPhoto on your Nokia device. We recommend that you delete the originals from your Nokia device during import to prevent duplication.

3. How can I find the photos I transferred to my device?

Open the device's Gallery and search for them in Images & video.

4. Where are my image files stored on the device?

They are located on the memory card if your Nokia device has one, but the exact location may vary depending on the product. Typically, they can be found using the File Manager in Images > External.

5. How can I remove photos from my device?

In the Nokia Multimedia Transfer menu, choose Device Settings for the device and in that window, click Remove Transferred Files from Device... This will remove any photos transferred from your Mac to your Nokia device. To remove the original photos captured by your Nokia device, use the Nokia Device Browser.

6. How do I browse a specific album on my device?

Currently, iPhoto albums are not transferred to the device. Only the pictures or videos inside of albums can be transferred.

7. Why are the file sizes of images transferred to my device with Nokia Multimedia Transfer smaller than the originals stored on my Mac?

Nokia Multimedia Transfer reduces the image sizes during transfer to save room on your Nokia device for more files and media.

8. When do photo imports happen?

Photo import will only occur when you connect your Nokia device and you have new photos to import into iPhoto.

Transfer

1. When do playlist and album transfers happen?

Transfers are triggered by three possible events:

  • Connecting your Nokia device
  • Launching iPhoto or iTunes, or
  • Using "Start transfer" in the Nokia Multimedia Transfer menu.

Transfers will only occur if there are new photos, music, videos, or podcasts to be transferred.

2. How do I transfer S60 applications onto my device with Nokia Multimedia Transfer?

You can download S60 applications for your Nokia device using your Mac, then transfer then to your Nokia device with Nokia Multimedia Transfer. The installation files for S60 applications are downloaded as an SIS file format. S60 SIS installation files can be transferred in the same manner as other files with Nokia Multimedia Transfer's device browser. See the How to section for file transfer with the device browser for instructions.

Once you have transferred the application to your Nokia device, you will need to install it. Open the SIS installation file using your Nokia device's File Manager. Please refer to your Nokia device's user guide for more details concerning application installation.

3. Are files converted when transferred using Nokia Device Browser?

Files copied to your device using Nokia Device Browser are not modified in any way. If you want your music and video files converted into file formats that are compatible with your Nokia device, you should use Nokia Multimedia Transfer to transfer items from iTunes or iPhoto onto your Nokia device.

Bookmarks

1. How does bookmark sync work?

For supported devices, there are two options in device settings for Bookmark sync

  • Enable Bookmark Folder Sync
If this is checked, a folder for the device is created in Safari. The bookmarks in the device folder in Safari are synchronised with the device. If you add or delete a bookmark in this folder, it will be added or deleted on the device. Or if you add or delete a bookmark on the device it will be added to or deleted from the device folder in Safari.
By default this option is enabled if Safari is your default browser. It is useful for taking you favourite bookmarks with you.
  • Enable Safari Bookmark Transfer
If this option is checked, all the bookmarks in Safari are copied to the device and placed in a folder called Safari. Changes made to Safari are propagated across to the device, but changes to the bookmarks in the Safari folder on the device are not propagated back to Safari.
By default this option is off. It is useful if you want to take all you Safari bookmarks with you, just in case you need them.

2. What browsers are supported?

Currently only Apple's Safari Browser is supported.

3. What devices are supported?

4. Why aren't more devices supported?

Only the more recent devices have bookmark sync capability.

5. Why are my bookmark folders not transferred?

This is a limitation with the devices. They currently only support one level of subfolders in the browser.
